The first month of 2017 is almost over and I’m already thinking about where I would like to travel this year. I would like to say that it’s a realistic wishlist, but it’s actually a product of a daydreaming Sunday. Hopefully, I’ll travel to at least one of these locations, but we’ll see what the time will bring. Even though I would like to just pack my suitcase and go, there are some compromises I have to make with my studies, my job and my wallet. So where do I want to travel to this year (only limited to places I haven’t been to yet – finding extremely cheap tickets to London and spending a few days there has been a constant every year or two :))

Discovering Slovenia

I’ve travelled a lot during the spring months, so I decided to save some money in the summer and discover the beautiful Slovenian mountain side. Plane tickets will be cheaper in September:). Even though Slovenia is a small country it has a lot to offer and during this trip I found some new favourite spots. My journey started at the national reserve Zelenci, so early that there was almost no one there = extremely early for me.

Why should you visit Slovenian seaside in spring?

The seaside is one of my favourite parts of Slovenia. Even though it’s just 46 km long and you could almost walk from one part to another, it’s diverse and beautiful. It’s a combination of gorgeous old towns, pure nature and tourist destinations. I love to visit the seaside in spring and in autumn, as it’s not so filled with tourists. In spring it feels like everything is slowly waking up after winter. In autumn it is a calm and windy place that always makes me feel peaceful. Time runs slower there. Everybody is relaxed, nobody is in a hurry and the sun shines more often.

Amsterdam

It was about time to visit a new town. Last week a flew to Amsterdam and it was my first airplane ride alone, so I’m pretty proud of myself to find the right terminal, gate and get there and back:). I was staying at my friends place in a campus, so I wasn’t feeling like a tourist, if you ignore the fact I took photos every 5 minutes.

Paths of Ljubljana

On of the most beautiful walking paths in Ljubljana is Path of remembrance and comradeship. 32,5 km long walkway runs around Ljubljana where the fence used to be during occupation of the town during 2nd world war. Every May, many people take part in event and spend the day walking and collecting special badges, some even decide to compete in the Triples run. But people don’t walk here only on this day, as it is a beautiful path for walking, jogging or cycling.

My Favourite Place for a Morning Walk

Most of us love travelling to new places, discovering new cultures and cities, meeting new people. I was always attracted to places far away, somewhere I have never been before and that indescribable desire of extending your travels, leave everything behind and just starting a life somewhere unknown to you. But even though I can’t imagine living in only one country my whole life, I adore Slovenia, discovering its hidden places and even though I have been living in Ljubljana, the capital, for four years now, I think I haven’t found everything there is to see in this small town.

Those of you following my Instagram account probably saw that I went to Sziget festival this year. I have to confess that before I was sitting on a train, I wasn’t really excited. I was working a lot, got sick (or, according to the news reports, maybe poisoned with some sea algae) and worked when I was still in the process of getting better, I was renovating my (future) apartment, and still had lots of college work. Believe me, a week off wasn’t in my plan, but I’ve already bought the tickets months ago. And when I was sitting on the train back home, I could just turn around and do it all again.

I hope that everyone can read the title without any missing letters, the guide told me that’s the correct pronunciation and why wouldn’t I make this post a bit educational 🙂 Budapest is the capital of Slovenia’s neighbor country, Hungary, but I hadn’t found time to visit it in the last 22 years. That had to be changed, so I hopped on a night train from Ljubljana to Budapest and went on an extended weekend trip with my boyfriend, who turned out to be a great pillow when you have to sleep on a seat.
