I hope that everyone can read the title without any missing letters, the guide told me that’s the correct pronunciation and why wouldn’t I make this post a bit educational 🙂 Budapest is the capital of Slovenia’s neighbor country, Hungary, but I hadn’t found time to visit it in the last 22 years. That had to be changed, so I hopped on a night train from Ljubljana to Budapest and went on an extended weekend trip with my boyfriend, who turned out to be a great pillow when you have to sleep on a seat.

After seeing the sunrise for the first time in ages, we went to the hostel and spent next three days days exploring the town on feet (which can be translated to extreme cardio exercise of walking for ten hours with only short coffee, food and photo breaks). I won’t write about it’s landmarks or history, I’ll let the pictures speak for itself, here are just some few quick recommendations for anyone going there or just thinking about visiting this beautiful town.

1. Go on a free walking tour on your first day in town, you’ll get all the useful information, see most of the main attractions. Oh, and the guides are awesome, the tours are tip-based and they really do their best.

2. Walk everywhere, the streets are beautiful and almost all roads have a pavement. And you’ll come come home in a better shape than you were before.

3. Go for a walk on Gellert and Castle hill, the view is beautiful. Be sure you have a camera that makes panoramic shots.

4. Try some local wines, you’ll be surprised how cheap and tasty they can be. And of course, Starbucks, especially when you don’t have it in your own country.

5. Sit next to the Danube river, preferably between the bridges and watch the sunset (sounds cheesy but it’s beautiful :))

6. Kortoskalacs (I hope I wrote this right) is a must! If you are on a diet or trying to cut off sugar, eat one and then go on, it is too good to leave out.

7. Museums are closed on Mondays, so take that in account when planing the sightseeing.
